The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, establishing Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And where is the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
